The thing that irks me more than just about anything is going into a gym and seeing the countless members working out like their life depends on it (and it does...) but they are using poor form. Paying members doing things that can cause some pretty serious injury and I watch health club employees just walk right by them.
Now, I've developed a pretty effective and non-intrusive way to "help" people out when I can. But I would never get a workout in if I spent my time in the club fixing problems. I've seen some exercises that are so bad and bad for you that they could make the greatest trainer in the world forget what the exercise was supposed to be for in the first place!
I have a motto. If you're going to do it, do it right. There's no reason to do an exercise to work the upper back, for instance, if the intended muscles never get touched or you injure yourself in the process. Do the right work for the right results!
Proper form is essential for safety and effectiveness. The muscles and joints that they move were all put together to move a certain way. Stepping too far outside of that could really cause some serious problems later. If you have been wondering why your efforts don't produce the results that you've been hoping for, this very well could be one of the reasons.
If you are in the Austin/round Rock, TX area, stop by and see us at King Cat Fitness. We'd be glad to help you make sure you are doing it right. Join one of our boot camps or sign up for personal training while you're here. Great results are right around the corner.
